About the Monographs Collection

Until the Second World War, the collection growth was based on the legacies received as gifts, reparations from Germany, purchase of the important scientific and cultural works and the acquisition of manuals and textbooks that were necessary for Library users. Before the Second World War, the Collection contained almost 320,000 volumes. The most significant growth of the Collection was recorded between October 1944 and 1963 when the University Library had been receiving the sample copy of any book published in Serbia. At the time, the interlibrary loan with numerous academic libraries in the country and abroad began and the continual funding for the purchase of books was secured. Despite the decrease in the number of acquired publications, at the end of 2000 the Collection had almost around 1,5 million publications. Between 2001 and 2013, 76,906 monographs have enriched the Collection.
