“Center for Science” (hereinafter- the Center) is a department of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic”. This department has the following activities:

  1. The Center participates in the writing and implementation of projects of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” from the field of science and culture. As an intermediary between the client (the Library) and the financiers (fonds, state and international tenders, donors)- the Center deals with project activities regarding the creation of Projects, applying to domestic and international funds, as well as consulting activities. The Center promotes and supports the University Library, and also the University of Belgrade as a whole, so – when necessary – it carries out the writing and the implementation of the projects in partnership or on behalf of other institutions within the University of Belgrade.
  2. The Center promotes, through the organization of forums, expert gatherings and conferences, as well as through the means of public information, the Library and scientific research staff from the University of Belgrade and the institutions that function within it, but also the specific projects that originate from the University Library or other members of the University of Belgrade. The Center proposes and carries out the measures that would increase the importance of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” in a scientific sense, since this is the biggest scientific, research and parent institution of higher education in the country. The Center organizes forums, public performances, expert gatherings and conferences on the topic of scientific projects and digital scientific opportunities.
  3. Within the eScience project, the Center is the central coordination point for the cooperation with the Office for e-administration of the Republic of Serbia Government and other Government offices of the Republic of Serbia, involved in eScience, as well as with other scientific and research organizations, for whose libraries, the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” is the parent institution. The Center maintains regular contact with the Department responsible for entering the bibliographies of researchers.
  4. The Center promotes domestic scientific publishing, as well as consultative and educational activities regarding academic development of research institutions and researchers. In this sense, the Center, in accordance with its mandate, implements the programs and activities in accordance with the Law on Scientific and Research Activity of the Republic of Serbia and is in regular contact and communication with the competent Ministry, research and educational institutions in the country. The Center also cooperates with international institutions, media, non- governmental and private sector.
  5. The Center promotes new technologies within the digital science, both among students, master’s degree students and doctoral students, as well as among scientific workers, through the cooperation with all members of the University of Belgrade. In this sense, it proposes, promotes and, in cooperation with other departments, develops new applications that should provide increased visibility of scientific papers of researchers of the University of Belgrade, users of the services of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic”. In this sense, one of the key missions of the Center is the establishment and nurturing of the new “digital”, highly educated and well formed generation of Serbian scientific workers, who would increase the visibility of Serbian science on the whole and would be included in the most modern global scientific trends.

 

Among its employees, The University Library has exceptional experts- librarians who are qualified, experienced, trained and responsible, among which are 24 librarians with the highest professional title- librarian adviser, ten of whom have a PhD degree. These experts are- through separate projects and the eScience project- regular collaborators of the Center within the daily business and functioning of the Library as a whole.
