Content of the seminar

The seminar program will include the basic features of systems intended for depositing and long-term archiving in electronic form, which enable not only the storage of electronic documents, but also their easier use, simpler exchange and greater visibility. At the seminar, special attention will be paid to repositories as an infrastructure for establishing the so-called green vision of the Open Access. In addition to the theoretical part, the program will include practical work and practice in one of the digital repositories (PHAIDRA, Zenodo).

Seminar program – workshop

The seminar is divided into several segments

:I. Use of Repository Content:

1) Basic characteristics of digital repositories

2) The most common software supports (DSpace, Eprints, Fedora)

3) Division of the repository: institutional and thematic

4) The most important thematic repositories in the world

5) Directories and registries of Open Access repositories (DOAR, ROAR)

6) “Green” type of Open Access, the possibility of placing the work in a digital repository (Sherpa Romeo base)

7) Repositories in Serbia: number, types, visibility

8) Repositories of doctoral dissertations

II. Creating repository content (practical work in the PHAIDRA system)

1) Getting to know the Digital Repository of the University of Belgrade PHAIDRA (origin, features, input policy) and the “E-theses” subsystem

2) Other repositories in Serbia and abroad that work under the same system (universities in Nis, Kragujevac, Pristina /Kosovska Mitrovica/ and Banja Luka)

3) Metadata schemes (LOM, Dublin Core, ETD)

4) Entry of documents

5) Determining the availability of the placed object (“locking” objects)

6) Copyright protection within the repository

III. Visibility of repository content

1) Requirements of the European Commission for works within the Horizon 2020 projects

2) OPEN Aire

3) International repository: Zenodo

4) Data Exchange Protocol (OAI-PMH)

Prior knowledge

No special prior knowledge is required. The lecture is adapted to the prior knowledge of the participants and their information literacy.

Duration of the course

The course lasts 1 day for 6 hours. The number of participants is from 16 to 20.
