About the course

The course provides information on bibliographic tools, the so-called citation managers, which are used in research work, and which can also find their adequate application in library and information activities. In the course, bibliographies will be created in different citation styles using two citation managers, EndNote and Mendeley.

Bibliographic tools: EndNote and Mendeley – workshop

1. Concept and types of bibliographic tools

2. Commercial and non-commercial tools and their availability

3. More detailed description of the most popular tools (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero)

4. Special training in EndNote and Mendeley depending on the availability of these tools, i.e. the possibility of accessing the Academic Network

5. Finding literature and placing references in citation managers

6. Editing of references

7. Creating folders and organizing references

8. Forming groups and connecting with other users

9. Acquaintance with various add-ons that connect this system with other programs (browsers, text processor – Word)

10. Access to bibliographic tools through a text processor, automatic entry of references into the work

11. Creation of bibliographies in different citation styles

12. Getting to know the possibilities of changing the citation style and displaying the most popular styles (APA, Chicago, Harvard, etc.)

Previous knowledge

Open accounts on citation managers EndNote (who has access to the Academic Network) and Mendeley (citation manager in open access).

Duration of the course

The course lasts 2 days for 3 hours. Number of participants: from 10 to 16.
