Report on courses held in 2015
During 2015, a total of 12 courses were held, and the total number of participants was 212. The courses were held in the premises of the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” in Belgrade, but also in the Matica Srpska Library in Novi Sad, the University Library in Kragujevac and twice in the “Nikola Tesla” University Library in Nis. We thank all colleagues for their cooperation.
Course content
The presentation of selected Google services provides a comprehensive and practice-determined overview of those tools that can be considered to improve the library and information activity, make it easier and more efficient, and the library itself more visible on the world wide web. The program includes:
Google as a search engine – finding literature on the Internet
Basic and advanced search, customization and modifications of the search engine (setting the language, setting filters, etc.), finding different types of content (images, etc.), search optimization (SEO);
Google services as a means of presenting content
Google Scholar- features, finding literature, advanced search, the difference between a general Google search and a Scholar search, familiarization with additional tools for evaluating scientific work.
Google books – presentation of how a book is uploaded to Google, how to determine the level of availability of a book, introduction to specifics such as document protection with a Creative Community license, etc.
Google services that enable the creation of new content and the improvement of daily work in the library
Gmail and services available for free to registered users (formation of groups, Google +);
Google drive (Drive) – using Google to write and save documents (text, presentation, tables), cooperation and exchange of information between different users;
Google survey (Form) – creating a survey, sending it, analyzing the results;
Google calendar (Calendar) – creating your own calendar, entering events, sharing the calendar with colleagues;
In addition, Google Analytics is presented and participants learn how access to web pages can be monitored and user response to a web presentation can be analyzed.
Required prior knowledge
No specific prior knowledge is required, and for the purposes of the course it is necessary that all participants have an open Gmail account.
Duration of the course
The course lasts 2 days for 3 hours. The number of participants is from 8 to 16.
