Promotional activities
From 15th to 20th December the University Library organized daily screenings of digitized material such as slideshows presenting cover pages, illustrations and articles from the historical newspapers collection that was digitized during the project. Students and researchers had the opportunity to browse and search through digitized newspapers using TEL portal that was set as a homepage on every computer at the Library. Librarians encouraged and guided them through search steps and after successful research awarded them with promotional material.
University Library launched “On this day” series that promote articles and events that happened in Serbia on the same day in history and started posting them on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. First “old news” that was posted dates from 1930 and delivers a story about taxes that bachelors were obliged to pay to the state; next article from 1940 presented a brief report on Belgrade University students and their achievements, followed by a 1934 article on what to eat during wintertime, given from purely scientific point of view. Library fans gave a “green light” for such posts, so the University Library will continue publishing excerpts from the past in the future.
In media
During December 2014 and January 2015, National radio-television of Serbia published several articles inspired by Europeana Newspapers project on their website: “Cinemas in Serbian historical newspapers”, “What newspapers published 150 years ago” and “Christmas in historical newspapers.”
Project became very popular in Serbia and sparked National radio-television of Serbia to present a TV story “Science 2014: Digital peak into the history of Europe” which talks about Europeana Newspapers project, digitization, results and opportunities. Broadcast is scheduled for January 2015.
