About the project
The University Library “Svetozar Markovic” teamed with the Book and Travel Museum, NGO Adligat, was awarded the British National Library grant within the Endangered Archives program for the project Safeguarding the Fragile Collection of the Private Archive of the Lazic Family.
This was a prestigious library program. An exclusive archive owned by the Lazic family was digitized, assigned metadata and presented to the public within the project. The archive consists of rare periodicals, rare calendars, law books which have never been digitized and letters and postcards of Serbian soldiers from the First World War.
The project started in February 2016 and ended in February 2017.
Digitization of valuable materials
The fact that, among other publications, the public was presented for the first time with the issues of the rare periodicals such as Pregled listova, Misao, and Krfske novine, unpublished personal correspondence of Zivojin Misic, extremely rare calendars which cannot be found in other archives, a part of the materials from Corfu and rare publications by Geca Kon, testifies to the value of this collection.
Promotion
Digital presentation of these archival materials was organized via the cutting edge digital technology the Magic Box and it is in open access on the project website created by the University Library. These invaluable materials are also accessible via the British National Library website.
