About the Collection

The Folk Literature Collection contains manuscript legacy of the benefactor (with autographs, clippings, printouts, letters, personal documents), more than 1,300 photos, 22 photographic plates, furniture and personal belongings of the benefactor. Books and journals in the field of folk literature mainly acquired as gifts, through exchange or purchase, are the main part of the Collection. Publications and the manuscript legacy of the Folk Literature Department can only be used in the Reading Room located in the home of Vojislav M. Jovanovic.

Vojislav Jovanovic Marambo

Vojislav M. Jovanovic (1884-1968) was a versatile creator and a connoisseur of many fields. He was an archivist writer, diplomat, amateur photographer, literary critic, creator of famous inter-war anthologies of folk poetry. He did a lot of  research in folk tales literature, history and Serbian folklore. Jovanovic was especially interested in the reception of our national literature in the European literary circles and he was the author of numerous studies on the fake folk poetry.
