All interested users can send a request to the University Library “Svetozar Markovic” for a software check of the authenticity of their texts. The check is done through the program Ithenticate (from the company Turnitin) which enables comparing the text with leading foreign scientific journals and services, as well as with millions of current and archived web pages.
In accordance with the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, it is possible to send a request only for one’s own work. When a work has multiple authors, it is necessary that all co-authors agree to the check. The responsibility for any copyright infringement lies with the user.
It is not necessary to be a Library member to check documents.
The check is charged in accordance with the valid price list. We ask users to check the valid price list before sending the request since the price depends on the costs of acquiring credits/licenses on the Ithenticate service and is subject to change.
How to send a request?
It is necessary to fill out the electronic form which is on the Library site.
What can you check?
You can check machine-readable texts in appropriate formats (doc, PDF, etc.). Documents cannot be larger than 100 MB.
What does the process of checking look like?
When a user sends a request, in the period of 3 days, they will get an initial email for the activation of their temporary profile on the service Ithenticate, within which, upon finalized paying, they will be able to access the software report as well. By entering the temporary account, the user will find, in the folder “Documentation check”, a folder with their name in which the checked document will be. You can find more information about the checking process and access to the authenticity report in the presentation. The completed check will not affect any future checks of the same document, that is, in the next check there will not be a high percentage of matching since the system only does the comparison with published publications (internet, Crossref, etc.).
Comparing documents
From April 2022, it is possible to compare documents within the Ithenticate service, that is, to compare one (primary) document with up to five others (Doc-to-Doc Comparison).
This check is done only if there is a copyright basis for it (the authorship of the works or a permission from the author/copyright holder).
Charging for this service is the same as for the other ones: only the number of the words in the primary document is counted. For this type of check, requests are sent via email to provera@unilib.rs, however, it is necessary to determine if the check is possible from a copyright perspective before sending it.

Every check is charged, regardless of whether it is a repeated check of the same document or a document that is being checked for the first time.
