Content of the seminar
The seminar is a continuation of the programs implemented in three accreditation periods: 2016 (“Copyright in the library and information industry”), 2017-2018 (“Copyright in the library and information industry: violation of rights and the concept of plagiarism”) and 2019-2022 (“Copyright law in library and information activities: author’s work and the Internet”).
Many digitalisation processes could not be realized to the end due to the impossibility of locating or identifying the rights holders. Digitalisation of the heritage from the beginning of the 20th century mostly included such examples, when works, among which some have inestimable cultural and historical value, could not be duplicated, because not enough time had passed since the death of the author, and the successors were not available or were not known at all. In this way, the preservation of the works is threatened (in some cases there is only one copy of the work), and valuable parts of the heritage remain inaccessible or insufficiently visible.
Due to the announced and necessary changes to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, regarding the inclusion of the so-called “orphan works” in the domestic legislation, it is necessary to become familiar with the way in which this issue is resolved in EU countries and the region, so that the library community could be prepared for the future procedure.
Aside from reminding and renewing the basic terms of copyright, during the seminar the participants will also be introduced to other announced changes to the Law that are important for library and information activities.
